Scope of Job Responsibilities.

The Purchasing Manager procures components and accessories for amateur radio equipment and is responsible for managing all aspects of material flow and maintaining control and accuracy over all inventories, including all transactions, planning, scheduling, and cost. This position is also responsible for developing and managing supplier relationships.


Job Duties 

  • Develop purchasing strategies.
  • In concert with Elecraft Senior Management, create and maintain product demand forecast.
  • Perform analysis of customer demand, sales forecasts and historical material usage to develop and execute build-to-order and build-to-forecast plans.
  • Coordinate with management team on future build schedules to meet anticipated customer needs without increasing inventory levels.
  • Establish and implement methods and best practices related to the systems and processes that support inventory forecasting, purchasing, and material control.
  • Eliminate excessive inventories in all categories and improve efficiency through the scheduling process. Manage and drive to low levels of slow moving, excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Purchasing Management
  • Research and evaluate suppliers to compare pricing and services.
  • Select prospective suppliers and negotiate prices and contracts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Evaluate suppliers based on quality, timeliness, and price.
  • Identify, develop and manage effective relationships with existing and potential suppliers of goods and services to meet the established cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Supplier and potential supplier site visits
  • Coordinate with fellow managers to monitor inventory and determine supply needs.
  • Establish and implement methods and best practices related to the systems and processes that support inventory forecasting, purchasing, and material control.
  • Prepare customer delivery reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends and use information to proactively communicate potential late deliveries.
  •  Develop and execute a sourcing strategy to meet the company’s business growth and sourcing requirements.
  • Adhere to established company policies, procedures, terms and conditions and legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
  • Participate as a member of the Production team in making cross-functional operational decisions.
  • Eliminate waste from the Production process and drive sustained performance
  • Coordinate with cross-functional business teams to develop the best economic strategy for production planning to support customer demand.
  •  Participates in MRB meetings to resolve quality issues working with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Purchasing and Quality to achieve cost reduction targets.
  • Ensure ECOs are processed and implemented correctly
  • Coordinate New Product Introduction requirements between Program Management, Purchasing and Production to ensure seamless new product introduction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/ Work Experience Required

  • Candidate must have working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their uses in a manufacturing environment.
  • Candidate should have a minimum of three years’ experience in Production Control, Inventory Planning, Cost Accounting or other related fields. 
  • Candidate must be proficient with Windows Office applications and have excellent knowledge of Excel.
  • Candidate must have strong organizational skills.

Other

  • Must have excellent communication skills with in-house stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with APICS certification.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Lean Manufacturing training.
  • Ability to leverage metrics and other tools to drive supplier performance.

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

  • Required to stand and walk.

  • Visual abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
